Peskov: Russia’s financial system stable despite ruble volatility

MOSCOW, Aug 17 (PRIME) -- Russia’s financial system is stable despite volatility of the ruble, which slid against the U.S. dollar in August on concerns of fresh U.S. sanctions, President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

“You can see that the dynamics are mixed. There is some volatility, but… the heads of our economic and financial sectors have said that the state’s financial and economic system is absolutely stable,” he said.

On August 8, the U.S. announced introduction of new sanctions on Russia for its alleged involvement in Skripal poisoning in the U.K. The first package of restrictions includes a full ban on imports of dual-use devices and component parts to Russia while the second tranche may include a ban on flights of national flagship carrier Aeroflot.
